The Department of English adopts outcome-based learning. An attempt is made to create, select, and apply appropriate techniques, resources, and modern ICT tools for better learning outcomes. The focus is on training and skill to engage in self-regulating and life-long learning in the digitally changing times. Generate awareness of the societal and environmental issues for ensuring the practice of sustainable development. Acquaint the learners with ethical principles, moral values, professional ethics and responsibilities. Inculcate leadership qualities, team-spirit as well as a sense of individuality in the learners.
The department of English happens to be the largest department in the Arts faculty of the college. English has been taught in the college since its inception. Under- graduate programme in English was started in 1938 and Post-graduate programme in 1980-81.The department has consistently striven to provide quality teaching to the students who belong to the economically and social background section of the society. Many great scholars are associated with the department such as Prof. Mandavgane, Prof. S.L Deshpande, Prof.V.T Hazare, Dr. A. K Vishnu, and Dr. R.R Ranpise etc. The department has a good collection of books and has a language Lab facility. The “English Literary Association” provides a forum to the students for curricular and extra curricular activities such as seminars, group discussion, debates, poetry reading, quiz, mock interviews etc. The department also invites resource persons to give guest lectures pertaining to English grammar, language and literature in every academic year. Dr. Bharati Patnaik is presently working as the head of the department of the department. She has been a member of the Board of Studies in English and also Faculty Member of Arts in SGB Amravati University, Amravati. She is also the recognized supervisor of Ph. D and 4 research scholars are working under her able guidance. She has also completed 2 Minor Projects sponsored by UGC Delhi. Besides this, our faculty member Dr. D. R Khanderao, is also actively engaged in research and has completed 1 Minor research project sponsored by UGC to his credit. He is recognized Soft Skill Trainer of SGB Amravati University. Lastly, both the staff and the students of the department have been active in the past and help to lead the department and college to greater heights in future also.
